Julien Baker ‎– Sprained Ankle

The Murfreesboro musician has been on the scene for a while as a member of Memphis’ Forrister, and this is her debut solo album. The record’s title track lyricism carries a similar intimacy heard in Forrister’s songs, this one is much more instrumentally muted and atmospheric. Baker’s voice opens up and closes in on itself as it lilts, carrying each heartbreaking line like small, burdensome shards of shattered glass when there’s no place to bury them.
